Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences aims to be an international research university, placing emphasis on basic research. Our professors publish numerous articles in top international academic journals, building our reputation as a leading university dedicated to pharmacy and the life sciences. They also actively participate in scholarly societies both within Japan and overseas by presenting papers at academic conferences, and carry out joint research. The university welcomes students and research fellows from overseas as well as from other Japanese universities. To encourage and support basic research, the university offers grants from our own funds and presents commendations. (The Shoji Mizushima Memorial Award is given to young researchers of great promise, while the Nakako Yoshida Memorial Award is given to exceptional contributors to education and research.)
Our professors and research personnel have also been the recipients of grants-in-aid from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. They also participate in joint international research projects funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science as well as international academic research grants. Researchers actively carry out research in the United States, China, Australia, Europe, Southeast Asia, and other locations around the world. They are also invited to participate in ongoing international joint research projects by other researchers worldwide.
